It will train you to not only use the 26 lessons effectively, but learn how to train others as well.  As Action for Healthy Kids looks to expand the ReCharge! training program, we are looking for experienced individuals to be the first to become ReCharge! Trainers!  All participants will receive a ReCharge! kit and information on how to apply for more free kits.  For only $10, you will become certified to facilitate ReCharge!, train others, and have a chance at winning money to support your wellness initiatives.  All registration fees will go towards this mini-grant, so recruit your colleagues to learn about this exciting and engaging program!

An Overview of Teaching Games via a Tactical Approach

This session will contain some theory related to the tactical approach to teaching games (also known as Teaching Games for Understanding), but will also allow for hands-on game participation. The focus of the approach is on small-sided games, question and answer episodes that expose players' thinking during games, and skill development that is relevant to game performance. Assessment of game play will also be discussed.

This session introduces teachers to the USTA's School program and explains how they can implement this program in their school district. With a focus on large group management skills, this session will help you will learn how to quickly transform a school gym, or playground into a dynamic tennis-playing environment, and allow students to experience instant tennis success in a fun and safe manner. This is a hands-on session, so be prepared to be active, while learning the basics of the NASPE-aligned USTA School Curriculum. Modified tennis equipment including easy-to-rally foam tennis balls and portable nets make the game fun and engaging from the moment a child first picks up a racquet.

Thrill The World is an annual worldwide simultaneous dance of Michael Jackson's Thriller.  In the USA, Thriller is going to take place on October 23, 2010. It’s great opportunity for you to promote dance with your students and perhaps get your school to participate in this worldwide event. Like many others, I grew up on Michael Jackson's music, so to me this is an awesome tribute!

Join the Let's Go Fishing (LGF) Program Coordinator for the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department (F&G) and learn about all LGF has to offer you and your students. This session will include a crash course on fly casting. The LGF program is part of the F&G Aquatic Resource Education Program. Let's Go fishing courses and associated materials have been designed to aid beginning anglers in the basic elements of how, when, where and with what to fish. The goals of the LGF Program go beyond these obvious skill development activities, however. The perception and understanding of life process (food habits, predation, habitat requirements, etc.) are encouraged through these activities. We also seek to provide a framework for the development of a personal philosophy of the human relationship with nature and provide participants with a lifelong recreational activity.

Wellness Messages That Grab Attention: Writing For All Mardie Burckes-Miller (and a K.I.S.S.) Health
We need to develop K.I.S.S. (Keep it short and simple) wellness messages in our print materials, i.e. newsletters, parent letters, bulletin boards, pamphlets, and in workshops or one-on-one sessions so that our participants can understand our messages. The presentation will provide health and physical education teachers and school professionals with practical skills to improve understanding through effective oral and written communication to improve the quality of health materials. Did you know that that nearly one-half of adults read at the 8th grade level and below? These 90 million American adults cannot read most health information. The average reading level in the US is 6th-8th grade, yet some of the health materials and websites you recommend are at the 10th grade or higher. Participants will discuss the scope of the literacy problem, the solution, assess readability levels of common reading materials, review principles of creating easy to read pamphlets, fact sheets, and letters in health/wellness. Video vignettes will be shown and discussed as case studies. This will be a hands-on workshop to help you create materials for your students or parents.

From the village of Headington, England, dance the old traditional Morris dances Country Garden and Constant Billy to live music on fiddle and accordion. The figures and steps are easy and fun. Morris dancing was a primitive, ritual fertility dance from small farming villages in England, usually danced only in spring while holding hankies or sticks.

An overview of the sport of rugby will be given, including its status worldwide as a major sport, in the US as a minor sport, and the fact that 7s rugby has just been added to the 2016 Olympics. A complete program will be presented, with lesson plans, equipment needs, and evaluation standards, which will allow PE instructors to incorporate touch (flag) rugby into the elementary, middle, or high school curriculum. We will emphasize the minimal implementation costs, the high rate of cardiovascular effort/time, the program’s inclusiveness, and the fact that kids think it’s FUN!

Strength Training for Middle or Early High School Using Free Weight

Participants will learn how to successfully implement a program of general strength development with the use of free weights (barbells and dumbbells and a few assorted machines). The program can be successfully implemented with a class of up to 25 students. Students in the unit learn how to perform a dozen exercises with proper form and learn how to record and use a program of progressive overload.

The purpose of this session is to create an interactive discussion to explore participants' understanding of realistic applications of guidelines offered from motor learning research. The focus will be on instructional strategies and practice design and error correction. Exploration of the response options will ensue followed by the provision of practical suggestions on how to design learning experiences that will improve students' skill proficiency.

The new Genesis bow will be introduced and information on the National Archery in the Schools program will be outlined. Participants must pass a written exam. Once certified, participating schools qualify for rental equipment package and/or discounts in purchasing equipment. Areas covered will include range safety, shooting form, equipment maintenance, teaching techniques and archery games. All equipment provided. No experience required.
