Code 1 - Operating Code for the Past
President
I. Name: The name of this office shall be Past
President of the NHAHPERD.
II. Purpose: The purpose of this code is to provide
the Past President with an outline of the duties and
responsibilities of the office of Past President of the
NHAHPERD.
III. Organization:
A. How Elected: After serving one year as President,
succeeds to the office of immediate Past President and
shall serve one year.
B. Term of Office: The Past President will serve for one
year and begins on March 1 and concludes on the next
February 28.
C. Vacancy: In case of death or resignation of the Past
President, the President will appoint a member of the
Association to fill the unexpired term.
IV. Duties:
A. The Past President shall:
1. Serve on the Executive Board and the Executive
Committee.
2. Act in an advisory capacity in whatever situation
requested by the President.
3. Send copies of key correspondence to appropriate members
of the Executive Board.
4. Be responsible for the planning of the NHAHPERD Annual
Convention. In conjunction with the Executive Director take
care of: Convention Planning, Hospitality, Program
Entertainment, Educational Exhibits, Commercial Exhibits,
Social Recreation, Facilities, Records, Evaluation,
Arrangements, Publicity (including newsletter articles),
Registration, and Program Printing.
5. Serve as student advisor and work with Student
Representative to the board on convention programs, student
clubs, and awards.
6. Serve as a member of the Program Enhancement Grant
selection committee.
7. Serve as an ex-officio member of Retiree Network
Committee.
8. Submit to the Constitution, Bylaws, and Operating Code
Committee any items in this code that need to be updated.
These should also be included in the annual report as
recommendations for change.
9. Turn over files to successor at the last meeting of the
Executive Board. If unable to attend this meeting, file
should be delivered to the President prior to the meeting.
10. Select and turn over to the NHAHPERD Archivist copies
of any materials that have a bearing on NHAHPERD history.
Code 2 - Operating Code for the
President
I. Name: The name of this office shall be the
President of the NHAHPERD.
II. Purpose: The purpose of this code is to provide
the President with an outline of the duties and
responsibilities of the office of President of the
NHAHPERD.
III. Organization:
A. Eligibility: Must have had continuous membership for two
years.
B. How Elected: The President shall automatically succeed
to the office of President at the close of his/her tenure
as President-Elect.
C. Term of Office: The President will serve for one year
and begins his/her term on March 1 and concludes on the
next February 28.
D. Vacancy: In case of death or resignation of the
President, the President, the President-Elect shall succeed
him/her for the unexpired term.
IV. Duties:
A. The President shall:
1. Discharge the responsibilities of this office as
prescribed in the Constitution.
2. Act as Chairperson of all regular meetings of the
Executive Board and any special meetings.
3. Serve on the Executive Committee.
4. Act as Chairperson of all meetings of the membership,
and at any special meetings.
5. Make the following appointments with Executive Board
approval: Executive Director, Secretary, Treasurer,
Newsletter Editor, and any additional committees deemed
necessary to carry out the purposes of the association as
per operating codes.
6. Notify the administrative person responsible for each
officer and persons on committees (Superintendent, College
President, Department Head, etc.) of the election or
appointment of members asking cooperation in attendance at
meetings and projects.
7. Cooperate with the Past President in organizing and
carrying out plans for the Annual Convention.
8. Notify all officers and committee chairpersons to
present reports at the Annual Convention.
9. Present a progress report to the membership at the
Annual Convention as deemed appropriate.
10. Be responsible for the election of officers at the
Annual Convention and be the tie-breaking vote, if
necessary.
11. Work with the Executive Director in the formulation of
Convention policies and contracts, and recommendations on
Convention procedures and decisions.
12. Instruct the Executive Board in their responsibilities
for formulation and conduct of the Convention program.
13. Set agenda for and chair the business meeting(s) at the
Annual Convention.
14. Be responsible for New Officer Orientation at the March
meeting.
15. Present appreciation letters (or certificates) to the
Executive Board members whose term expires.
16. Work in close cooperation with the Executive Director,
Secretary, and Treasurer and act through those offices in
such routines of organization, reports, mailings,
announcements, and correspondence as rightfully belong to
the functions of Executive Director, Secretary, and
Treasurer.
17. Working with the Executive Director, serve as a liaison
with the EDA and the AAHPERD by:
a. Disseminating information and implementing action of EDA
and AAHPERD.
b. Submitting information from the State to EDA and
AAHPERD.
c. Conveying recommendations or problems to EDA and AAHPERD
boards.
d. Coordinating State Association plans and activities.
e. Serving as a member of the AAHPERD Alliance Assembly and
the EDA Representative Assembly.
f. Naming representatives to the EDA Representative
Assembly, AAHPERD Alliance Assembly, EDA committees, and
AAHPERD committees as requested.
18. Appoint replacements to Standing Committees and form
and appoint President's Committees, with final approval by
the Executive Board.
19. Be responsible for the authorization of all
expenditures.
20. Instruct and activate Association Committees in their
specific functions.
21. Appoint representatives to the Council for Services and
the Council for Conventions in accordance with the rotation
plans as designated by the EDA Bylaws.
22. Insure the bonding of the Treasurer to the amount
considered feasible in relationship to the financial
condition of the Association.
23. Working with the Chair of the Awards Committee, notify
recipients of awards and extend congratulations.
24. Notify the EDA and AAHPERD of those members who
received awards.
25. Working with the Executive Board, interpret objectively
and in terms of consensus, the needs, efforts, and actions
of the State Association to EDA and AAHPERD and in so far
as possible, promote professional growth and integrity
through coordinating goals, standards, and services.
26. Submit the President's Message for each newsletter.
27. Turn over files to successor at the last meeting of the
Executive Board.
28. Submit to the Constitution, Bylaws, and Operating Code
Committee any items in this code that need to be updated.
These should also be included in the annual report as
recommendations for change.
29. At the conclusion of his/her term of office, go through
all minutes and take steps to add policies during that year
in office to the appropriate policy publication.
30. Select and turn over to the NHAHPERD Archivist copies
of any materials that have a bearing on NHAHPERD history.
Code 3 - Operating Code for the
President-Elect
I. Name: The name of this office shall be
President-Elect of the NHAHPERD.
II. Purpose: The purpose of this code is to acquaint
the President-Elect with the duties and responsibilities of
the office of President-Elect of the NHAHPERD.
III. Organization:
A. Eligibility: Must have had continuous membership for two
years.
B. How Elected:
1. The election of the President-Elect shall be conducted
in accordance with the NHAHPERD Constitution. This office
will be held alternately by male and female.
2. The President-Elect shall automatically succeed to the
office of President of the NHAHPERD at the close of his/her
tenure as President-Elect. (This does not apply to any
President-Elect who has been appointed to fill an unexpired
term.
C. Term of Office: The President-Elect will serve for one
year and begins his/her term on March 1 and concludes on
the next February 28.
D. Vacancy: In case of death or resignation of the
President- Elect, the President will direct the Nominating
Committee to provide the names of two candidates who have
agreed in writing to serve if elected as President-Elect.
These candidates' names and a write-in space will be placed
on a mail ballot and submitted to the membership for vote.
The candidate receiving a clear majority of the returned
votes will serve the unexpired term as President-Elect,
then succeed to the office of President.
IV. Duties:
A. The President-Elect shall:
1. Serve on the Executive Board and the Executive
Committee.
2. Act for the President in his/her absence and, in case of
death or resignation of the President, the President-Elect
shall succeed the President for his/her unexpired term.
3. Assist the President in the business program and
activities of the NHAHPERD.
4. Discharge the responsibilities of this office as
prescribed in the Constitution.
5. Serve as Chairperson of the NHAHPERD Nominating
Committee. Submit call for nominations and other pertinent
information to newsletter.
6. Serve as Chairperson of the Awards Committee. Submit
pertinent information to newsletter.
7. Serve as a member of the Program Enhancement Grant
Selection Committee.
8. Schedule a photographer for the Annual Convention and to
photograph Executive Board members.
9. Meet with the newly elected members of the Executive
Board immediately following election.
10. Attend the Leadership Development Conference in the
summer following election.
11. Represent the State at EDA Convention and other EDA
meetings as directed by the Executive Board.
12. Solicit recommendations for committee membership and
committee chairpersons from outgoing Committee
Chairpersons, the Executive Board, and other members in the
State.
13. Send copies of key correspondence to appropriate
members of the Executive Board.
14. Submit to the Constitution, Bylaws, and Operating Code
Committee items in this code that need to be updated. These
should also be included in the annual report as
recommendations for change.
15. Select and turn over to the NHAHPERD Archivist copies
of any materials that have a bearing on NHAHPERD history.
(NOTE: All Vice President codes are the same except for the
name of the discipline and the associations to which they
will be asked to relate and represent the state. See #8
under Duties.)
Code (4-7) - Operating Code for the Vice President
for (discipline)
I. Name: The name of this office shall be Vice
President for (discipline).
II. Purpose:
A. To assume primary responsibilities for the activities
conducted throughout the year in (discipline).
B. To interpret the work of the Executive Board and promote
programs for (discipline).
III. Organization
A. Eligibility: Must have had continuous membership for two
years.
B. How Elected: The Vice President shall be elected by the
membership as provided in the Constitution.
C. Term of Office: The Vice President shall serve for one
year and begins his/her term on March 1 and concludes on
the next February 28.
D. Vacancy: In case of a vacancy in the office of Vice
President, the Executive Board shall appoint a person to
fill the unexpired term.
IV. Duties
A. The Vice President for (discipline) shall:
1. Serve as a member of the Executive Board and attend all
meetings.
2. Represent the NHAHPERD at all conferences dealing with
(discipline) in which the Association has been invited to
participate.
3. Serve as a resource to identify and recommend speakers
and consultants for the discipline.
4. Plan annual NHAHPERD Fall Conference programs relating
to (discipline).
5. Be responsible for public relations for presiders and
presenters of conference programs in (discipline).
6. Submit article for each newsletter (fall, winter,
spring) related to (discipline).
7. Serve on the Nominating and Awards Committees.
8. Be responsible for matters related to other discipline
associations. For example: Health to AAHE; PE to NASPE,
NAGWS; Recreation to AAPAR, NHRPA; and Dance to NDA, NHDI.
9. Perform such other duties as may be delegated by the
President.
10. Send copies of key correspondence to appropriate
members of the Executive Board.
11. Turn over files to successor at the last meeting of the
Executive Board. If unable to attend this meeting, files
should be delivered to the President prior to the meeting.
12. Submit to the Constitution, Bylaws, and Operating Code
Committee items in this code that need to be updated. These

Code (8-11) - Operating Code for the Vice
President-Elect for (discipline)
I. Name: The name of this office shall be Vice
President-Elect for (discipline).
II. Purpose:
A. To learn the responsibilities of the office of Vice
President for (discipline).
B. To interpret the work of the Executive Board and promote
programs for (discipline).
III. Organization
A. Eligibility: Must have had continuous membership for two
years.
B. How Elected: The Vice President-Elect shall be elected
by the membership as provided in the Constitution.
C. Term of Office: The Vice President-Elect shall serve for
one year and begins his/her term on March 1 and concludes
on the next February 28. The Vice President-Elect shall
automatically succeed to the office of Vice President
immediately after the final Executive Board meeting.
D. Vacancy: In case of a vacancy in the office of Vice
President-Elect, the President will direct the Nominating

Codes 26-29 - Operating Code for the Past Vice
President for (discipline)
I. Name: The name of this office shall be Past Vice
President for (discipline).
II. Purpose: The purpose of this code is to provide
the Past Vice President with an outline of the duties and
responsibilities of the office of Past Vice President of
the NHAHPERD.
III. Organization
A. How Elected: After serving one year as Vice President,
succeeds to the office of immediate Past Vice President and
shall serve one year.
B. Term of Office: The Past Vice President shall serve for
one year and begins his/her term on March 1 and concludes
on the next February 28.
C. Vacancy: In case of a vacancy in the office of Past Vice
President, the Executive Board shall appoint a person to
fill the unexpired term.

Vice-President Elect for (discipline).
3. Represent the NHAHPERD at all conferences dealing with

participate.
4. Serve as an advocate for (discipline). As an advocate,
be responsible for matters related to other discipline
associations (for example: Health to AAHE; PE to NASPE,
NAGWS; Recreation to AAPAR, NHRPA; and Dance to NDA, NHDI)
and disseminate information/materials related to the
discipline.
5. Serve as a resource to identify and recommend speakers
and consultants for the discipline and for annual NHAHPERD
Fall Conference programs.
6. Serve on the Public Relations/Advocacy Committee.
7. Perform such other duties as may be delegated by the
President.
8. Give all official correspondence to the President and
Executive Director.
