Join Martin Mansell, three-time Paralympic Champion from the UK, and Michelle Grenier, faculty in Adapted Physical Education at UNH, for a day long session that will invigorate your program.
These activities are designed to be played from basic to more competitive levels. The sports curriculum challenges all students and provides teachers with sport specific information that address diverse abilities. There will be plenty of hands-on opportunities to experiment with a new twist to sports.

Disability Sports in General Physical Education Settings

In this workshop you will look at the theoretical and practical application of inclusion in physical education (PE) through the use and implementation of Paralympic Sports. You will also explore the concept of a holistic application through the use of the inclusion spectrum and reverse integration. You will gain an understanding of the different concepts in disability sports including goalball, bocce and wheelchair sports.
Instructor: Michelle Grenier, Ph.D., is an Associate Clinical Professor in the UNH Dept. of Kinesiology specializing in disability and inclusion. She has worked extensively in the schools as both teacher and consultant and has presented at conferences on topics including students with disabilities in physical activity settings.
Healthy Body Weights for Children and Teens

The growing rates of overweight and obesity among our youth are highly publicized. Health professionals and other adults working with this population can take action steps towards preventing eating concerns. They can also work with already overweight children and teens appropriately so that the goal of weight loss or stabilization happens without negative emotional side effects.
Instructor: Pamela Stuppy, M.S., R.D., L.D., is a registered/licensed dietitian. She is the dietitian for Phillips Exeter Academy and has nutrition counseling offices in York, ME, and Newington, NH, and is a columnist for several newspapers. In addition to her general practice, she specializes in women’s issues, eating disorders, vegetarian eating, sports nutrition, and bone density issues.
Teacher Liability and Ethical Considerations

This workshop explores liability and ethical issues that affect teachers, coaches, nurses, and other school personnel who provide direct services to students. This practical discussion will focus on current cases in the NH courts and outline ways to minimize the risk of student injury and reduce potential liability. You'll consider examples of safety liability in the schools and discuss the duty of school personnel to supervise students and prevent student-to-student injury. You'll also learn about: the practical limitations of releases and permission slips under state law; the need for proper record keeping; and issues concerning insurance and governmental immunity. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and share relevant experiences.
Instructor: Jay Boynton, J.D., is a practicing attorney specializing in school law. He has more than 20 years of experience representing the interests of schools in the NH state courts and in administrative settings. He is a frequent speaker on school law topics.
